Light Rail Vehicle Wheel Turning Machine

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is seeking proposals for a complete light rail vehicle wheel turning machine system and a chip conveyor system. The system must include all equipment, controls, enclosures, wiring, motors, and related items necessary for a complete operating system. The work includes the delivery of manuals, drawings, training, and support goods and services. The wheel turning machine shall be a lathe-type, CNC-controlled system designed for reprofiling light rail vehicle wheelsets and shall be installed within the existing sub-floor pit for track-level operation. The chip collection and removal system must be specifically engineered for seamless integration with the wheel-turning machine and be capable of effectively collecting and conveying metal stringer chips generated during cutting operations to designated chip collection containers. The system's design must accommodate the existing pit dimensions and ensure continuous crushing and transport of metal shavings from beneath the wheel-turning machine to a chip collection container on the shop floor. The system shall be configured to accommodate the specific light rail vehicle models used by VTA and shall incorporate all required customer-specific supplementary modules. Machine installation is not part of this contract.
