Secondary Power Systems and Small Gas Turbine Engines Component Improvement Program
DEPT OF THE AIR FORCE
The United States Air Force is preparing to issue an engineering services contract for Secondary Power Systems (SPS) and Power Take Off (PTO) Shafts. This Component Improvement Program (CIP) is a comprehensive engineering initiative focused on enhancing the safety, reliability, and maintainability of PTO shafts, which are essential to the operation of military aircraft. The program aims to improve the overall safety and maintainability of SPS and Gas Turbine Engine (GTE) systems by researching, designing, and developing fixes for identified service-revealed deficiencies (SRDs). The scope of work includes continued sustainment efforts, technical data, engineering analysis, design activities, prototyping, hardware testing, and the development and implementation of system improvements. Specifically, the program targets critical components such as Auxiliary Power Units (APUs), Jet Fuel Starters (JFS), Accessory Drive Gearboxes (ADG), Aircraft Mounted Accessory Drive (AMAD) gearboxes, and PTO shafts. Access to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) data, such as from Collins Aerospace, is required for successful solution and implementation. The contract is anticipated to be for eighteen months and will cover weapon systems including the F-15, F-16, B-1B, B-2, and other potential platforms and defense agencies.
