B18 Laundry Renovations & Additions

This is a presolicitation notice for a firm-fixed-price construction contract to renovate the existing historic Laundry Facility in Building 18 at the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center. The project includes general construction, alterations, roads, walks, grading, and drainage. Specifically, the work involves the full renovation of Building 18, including interior spaces, restrooms, basements, structural supports, and MEP upgrades. It also includes the abatement of lead-based paint and management of hazardous materials. Additionally, the contractor will construct a new generator enclosure and a fuel tank enclosure building, and replace windows/doors, refurbish select historic units, and install two HVAC units with required physical security protections. Exterior site work, including grading, drainage, utilities, and traffic control systems, is also part of the scope. The project aims to meet current operational, safety, code, and accessibility requirements while maintaining uninterrupted laundry operations and preserving the historic integrity of the building. The estimated magnitude of construction is between $10,000,000 and $20,000,000, with an estimated completion period of 600 calendar days after issuance of the Notice to Proceed.
