Elmore County New Jail Construction

This project involves the construction of a new county jail facility adjacent to the existing one in Wetumpka, Alabama. The project will be completed in multiple phases under a single contract, with the existing jail remaining operational throughout. Phase One includes administrative and support functions, such as offices, food service, laundry, medical unit, and booking facilities, along with housing units for 240 beds (four traditional cell blocks and four dormitory-style blocks). Phase Two includes a base bid for a 120-bed housing pod, with an option for an additional 120 beds. Phase Three, an alternate, involves the demolition of the existing jail facility and sealing of a connecting security tunnel. A mandatory pre-bid conference is scheduled for May 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. CDT at the Elmore County Commission offices. Sealed bids are due by June 2, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. CDT. Bids must be accompanied by a cashier's check or Bid Bond of at least five percent (5%) of the proposal amount, not to exceed $10,000. Performance and Payment Bonds of one hundred percent (100%) of the contract price will be required.
