Public Budget Hearing, Annual Budget Vote, and Election
Lawrence Union Free School District No. 15
The Lawrence Union Free School District No. 15 will hold a Public Budget Hearing on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence High School, 2 Reilly Road, Cedarhurst, to discuss expenditures and budgeting for the 2026-2027 school year. Public comments can be submitted to BOE@lawrence.k12.ny.us. The Annual District Budget Vote and Election will take place on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at four locations: Atlantic Beach Village Hall, Primary School at Number Two School, Lawrence High School, and Lawrence Middle School. Voters will decide on the appropriation of funds for the 2026-2027 school year, elect two Board of Education trustees for three-year terms (July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2029), and elect one Peninsula Public Library trustee for a five-year term (July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2029). Key propositions include: PROPOSITION NO. 1 - SCHOOL BUDGET: Authorizing expenditures of $106,231,918.00 for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. PROPOSITION NO. 2 - LIBRARY BUDGET: Appropriating $3,601,450.00 for the Peninsula Public Library for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. PROPOSITION NO. 3 - 2026 BUILDING CAPITAL RESERVE FUND: Authorizing the establishment of a Building Capital Reserve Fund, not to exceed $5,000,000.00 plus interest, for reconstruction, renovation, and equipping of various district facilities and equipment over a probable term of ten years. PROPOSITION NO. 4 - 2027 BUILDING CAPITAL RESERVE FUND: Similar to Proposition 3, authorizing the establishment of another Building Capital Reserve Fund with the same parameters and purpose. Nominations for trustee positions require a petition signed by at least 51 qualified voters and must be filed with the District Clerk by appointment only. A Real Property Tax Exemption Impact Report will also be prepared and included in the budget statement.
