]supplemental and alternative crops
The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) is soliciting applications for the Supplemental and Alternative Crops (SAC) program, Assistance Listing Number 10.200. This program supports projects aimed at expanding the adaptation and increasing the acreage of alternative crops grown for food/feedstuff, oil, and as feedstocks for industrial value-added products. These crops are crucial for providing new and profitable cropping options for U.S. agriculture, responding to market demands, and enhancing crop rotations. The SAC program requires integrated research and extension projects. Projects should focus on improving the productivity and profitability of these crops, developing superior cultivars and production practices, and ensuring cost-effectiveness and competitiveness. Applicants are encouraged to establish region-based, multi-state research networks and to rapidly transfer research results and technologies to producers and other users through effective outreach. Eligible applicants include colleges and universities, other Federal agencies, and private sector entities. The total anticipated funding for FY 2026 is approximately $1,815,036, with individual award ranges from $230,000 to $460,000. Projects can have a duration of 24 to 48 months.
