Description

This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) supports state, local, and tribal governments, law enforcement agencies, correctional facilities, probation and parole departments, and sheriff's departments in developing, implementing, or expanding de-escalation and crisis response training programs. The goal is to improve law enforcement responses to individuals in crisis who have behavioral health conditions, intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DDs), physical disabilities, and/or traumatic brain injuries. The program aims to equip officers with tactical skills, strategies, and technology to effectively de-escalate and handle crisis situations, enhance safety, and protect officer wellbeing. Eligible applicants include units of local government, public and state-controlled institutions of higher education with on-campus police departments, and public or state-controlled hospitals with on-campus police departments. This is a discretionary grant with a funding category in law enforcement and legal services.
