Cafe Operator for New Haven Free Public Library

The New Haven Free Public Library (NHFPL) is soliciting proposals from experienced for-profit and not-for-profit entities to operate a cafe located on the first floor of the Ives Memorial Library at 133 Elm Street, New Haven, CT. The cafe will serve as an amenity for library users and visitors, complementing the new Ives Squared Makerspace. The selected proposer will be responsible for providing outstanding coffee/beverage, food/snack service, and catering, with an emphasis on high-quality, diverse, and locally sourced options. The space includes approximately 1,800 sq. ft. of interior and seasonal outdoor patio space, with major kitchen equipment provided by the library. The operator will be expected to align with the library's mission of community, inclusion, and access, potentially featuring workforce development and social impact initiatives. The library seeks a stable, successful operation that enhances the library's ambiance and community engagement. The lease agreement will include utilities, and the lessee will be responsible for custodial maintenance of the cafe area. Proposers must meet City of New Haven health and safety codes.
