Solar Bus Shelter Program

NJ Transit is soliciting bids for the purchase and installation of approximately 106 solar bus shelters across New Jersey. The project involves manufacturing and installing these shelters, with a new design intended to become the agency's standard for future installations. The shelters will be solar-powered and lighted, with options for non-lighted configurations and alternate designs including metal mesh, front windscreen, or rear entrance. The project is divided into two phases: a Pilot Phase involving prototype construction and testing of six shelters, and a Production Phase for the remaining up to 100 shelters. Bidders must be prequalified by NJ Transit for Building Construction as a General Contractor with a minimum rating of 'L' ($4,000,001 to $6,000,000). Submissions are electronic via Bid Express, with bids due by 2:00 PM EST on Thursday, May 14, 2026. A pre-bid conference will be held via Microsoft Teams on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 10:00 AM EST.
