The National Institutes of Health (NIH) requires the installation of a second P-Line HMI controller on the clean side of the cagewash. This installation is necessary to efficiently operate the P-Line water bottle automation machine, which produces clean, bacteria-free water bottles for animals housed in the Building 35/35A vivarium. The current setup, with the main controller located on the dirty side, causes difficulties for cagewash staff in managing and troubleshooting the machine from the clean side. Installing a second controller on the clean side will allow for more efficient management and troubleshooting, thereby minimizing downtime, wasted staff time and PPE, and maximizing the return on investment for the machine. This upgrade is directly tied to animal care functions, enabling cagewash staff to monitor, control, manage, and troubleshoot the automation machine from the clean side, ultimately supporting efficient cagewash operations and animal healthcare.
