Pollinator Species and Habitat Association Study at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson
Department of Defense
This opportunity seeks a cooperative agreement to conduct research on pollinator species, with a focus on the Western Bumble Bee, and to identify their habitat associations at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. The project aims to support the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Environmental Conservation program by monitoring pollinator populations and their ecological roles. The research will involve fieldwork to document pollinator presence and distribution across various habitat types, including alpine tundra, floodplains, post-burn settings, and forests. Methods will include passive collection using blue vane traps and bee bowls, as well as active net capture. Laboratory identification of collected specimens will be coordinated with the Alaska Center for Conservation Science (ACCS). The project also includes preparing a work plan, conducting fieldwork, and submitting draft and final reports detailing findings, methodology, data analysis, and recommendations. Additionally, the Department of the Air Force is seeking a brand-name-or-equal aircraft wheel skate comparable to the PlaneSkate 100K, capable of moving disabled or damaged aircraft up to 100,000 pounds, with specific requirements for platform size, construction, towability, and winch capability.
