Marine Debris Removal on Aquacultural Leases near Cedary Key, Florida

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) intends to enter into agreements with specialized contractors to perform marine debris removal on aquacultural leases in the vicinity of Cedary Key, Florida. This initiative is supported by a federal grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for the "Turning Marine Debris into Restoration Materials through ReCLAMation of Shellfish Aquaculture Leases in the Vicinity of Cedary Key, Florida" project. Eligible contractors must be current parcel leaseholders, sublessees, or authorized users with an active State-Owned Sovereignty Submerged Land Aquaculture Lease. Services required include the removal of derelict clam bags and debris from hurricane seasons, separation of cultch material from debris, transportation of cultch material to designated restoration sites, and disposal of debris. Contractors must provide their own equipment, including boats, motors, winches, and other necessary supplies. Knowledge of local conditions such as tides, navigation hazards, wildlife, and weather systems is essential. The estimated award amount is up to $70 per clam bag, with an approximate total program award of $935,000 for one year.
