Wastewater Treatment Plant Modifications

The City of Independence, Iowa is soliciting bids for comprehensive modifications to its wastewater treatment plant. This project involves the replacement of fine screening and grit removal equipment, demolition of existing trickling filter structures, and the construction of new oxidation ditches, final clarifiers, and a RAS/WAS Pump Building. Additionally, the project includes converting the disinfection system from chlorine to ultraviolet, constructing aerobic digesters, and modifying the pump building to house blowers. Demolition of anaerobic digesters, upgrades to sludge storage, and improvements to the Administration Building, including a new storage building, electrical power distribution, and standby power, are also part of the scope. Site utility and roadway improvements, along with stormwater detention construction, are included. The work is expected to be substantially complete by September 30, 2029, and fully completed by December 31, 2029. Bidders are encouraged to utilize Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs). All iron and steel products must be produced in the United States.
