Manufacturing of Quality-Assured Low-Dose Aspirin and Magnesium Sulphate
Concept Foundation
This Request for Proposal (RFP) seeks manufacturers for the production of low-dose aspirin (75 mg oral tablets) and magnesium sulphate (0.5 g/mL injection). These are critical medicines for preventing and treating preeclampsia and eclampsia, with a focus on expanding access in sub-Saharan Africa. The SUPREME-SECURE project, funded by Unitaid and implemented by a consortium led by CHAI, aims to address market barriers such as unreliable supply, frequent stockouts, and inconsistent quality assurance of these essential maternal health products. The project targets implementation countries including Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Senegal, and Tanzania, with the potential for broader reach in low- and middle-income countries. Selected manufacturers may receive technical assistance and/or financial support to accelerate product development, strengthen manufacturing processes (including meeting climatic zone IVb stability requirements), achieve quality-assured regulatory submissions (WHO Prequalification, Stringent Regulatory Authority, or WHO Listed Authority approval), and ensure sustainable, affordable pricing and reliable supply chains.
