Request for Information: Modernization of Small Hydroelectric Generating Fleet
Water & Power
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is issuing this Request for Information (RFI) to survey the hydropower technology industry and obtain information on emerging innovations that can modernize LADWP's small hydroelectric facilities, enhance operational efficiency, improve environmental performance, and align with LADWP's 100 percent clean energy transition goals by 2035. LADWP operates a fleet of fourteen small hydroelectric generating units, many of which were commissioned between 1908 and 1971 and are in need of modernization. The RFI seeks information on technologies related to turbine and generator upgrades, automation and digitalization, environmental and regulatory performance, grid integration and flexibility, and forecasting and analytics. LADWP is interested in solutions that can increase energy generation efficiency, extend asset life, enhance monitoring capabilities, improve environmental compliance, and support clean energy goals. Respondents are asked to provide information on their company, proposed technologies, strategic relevance, feasibility, cost, performance evidence, and scalability. LADWP may also be open to pilot demonstrations under cooperative frameworks.
