Transfer of Macaques to Born Free USA Sanctuary

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is seeking to award a sole source, firm-fixed-price contract to Born Free USA for the permanent housing and lifetime care of approximately 160 macaques. This includes the responsibility for their humane transfer, veterinary oversight, chronic disease management, social group formation, and behavioral rehabilitation. The sanctuary must be Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS)-accredited and compliant with all applicable animal welfare regulations. The acquisition is time-sensitive due to the macaques' current living situation not being conducive to their long-term well-being. Born Free USA Primate Sanctuary is identified as the only GFAS-accredited source capable of meeting the CDC's requirements for accreditation, species expertise, capacity, and an expedited performance schedule. They require approximately 12 weeks to prepare additional enclosures, after which animals will be transported in cohorts of approximately 25.
