Description

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is issuing this Request for Information (RFI) to gather market research on pistols. This RFI may be used to develop requirements for a future solicitation. The FBI is interested in duty pistols in full-size, compact, and sub-compact/micro sizes, with specific requirements for barrel length, magazine capacity, striker-fired operation, magazine feeding, safety features, optics compatibility, and reliability. Additionally, the FBI is seeking information on inert training pistols (dimensionally and functionally consistent with compact duty pistols but incapable of firing live cartridges) and man-marking training pistols (designed to fire non-lethal training cartridges). The FBI also intends to procure replacement parts for these firearms. General requirements across all pistol types include being striker-fired, magazine-fed, corrosion-resistant, and accommodating existing pistol-mounted optics. Specific requirements for duty pistols include chambering for 9mm Luger, a functional reliability rate of at least one stoppage in 2,000 rounds, and a trigger pull weight between 4.5 and 6.0 pounds. Training pistols must be predominantly red (inert) or blue (man-marking) and meet specific functional and dimensional requirements. The FBI is requesting information from manufacturers regarding their capabilities, product details, and feedback on the preliminary requirements.
