The City of Taneytown, Maryland is seeking proposals from qualified attorneys or legal firms to serve as the City Attorney. This role requires a broad range of legal services, including litigation, contract review, real estate, land use, employment law, and administrative law. The City Attorney will act as the primary legal advisor to the Mayor, City Council, City Manager, and department heads, attending meetings, drafting ordinances and resolutions, and representing the City in various legal matters. The position requires a minimum of ten years of legal experience, with at least five years specifically in municipal law, and must be licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of Maryland. The selected attorney or firm will be responsible for interpreting and applying laws affecting the City, drafting legal documents, and providing legal opinions. The City Attorney will also represent the City in litigation and work cooperatively with insurance companies and other legal services as needed. The selected bidder will be required to execute a retainer agreement and provide proof of qualifications, including resumes, a list of other governmental entities represented, and five references.
