Kent State University Stark Conference Center Reuse
Kent State University
Kent State University is issuing this Request for Information and Qualifications (RFI) to solicit innovative, financially viable, and mission-aligned concepts for the adaptive reuse, redevelopment, operation, or reprogramming of its Conference Center located on the Stark Campus. The Conference Center, approximately 69,000 square feet, was constructed in 1971 and renovated in 2000, and previously operated as a full-service conference and training center. The University is seeking proposals for a long-term lease (5-25 years) that will enhance campus vitality, support regional economic development, and align with institutional priorities. Respondents are invited to provide information on their proposed use(s) for the Conference Center, how their concept aligns with the campus and community needs, preliminary space programming, and their anticipated economic and community benefits. Qualifications sought include experience with adaptive reuse projects, conference centers, hospitality, mixed-use developments, and projects involving higher education or public entities. The University may use the information received to refine a subsequent solicitation and may invite select respondents to participate in a future Request for Proposals (RFP) process. Key details from responses to initial questions indicate that the estimated annual value of the contract is $143,490, with an estimated 700 total hours. The maximum number of staff needed for any one event is 25, and typically only one staff member per shift is required for event security, which is not a 24/7 operation. Services may include ID checking, screening, access control, and guest advisement. There is no dedicated office space for the vendor on campus.
