California Department of Fish & Wildlife
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is issuing a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a permit to conduct excess vegetation disposal through livestock grazing. This permit will cover approximately 175 acres of the Whaley Unit, located within the Cosumnes River Ecological Reserve in Sacramento County, California. The primary objective is to manage vegetation in a manner that benefits wildlife, consistent with the goals of the Cosumnes River Preserve. This includes protecting riparian corridors, promoting native species, and restoring grassland ecosystems. The selected permittee will be responsible for grazing livestock in a wildlife-friendly manner, adhering to specific habitat and management objectives outlined in the RFP, such as maintaining residual dry matter, enhancing habitat for specific species like the greater white-fronted goose, and controlling invasive plant species. The permit term is for four years and nine months.
