Direct Conversion of Air to Ammonia and Nitric Acid Technology Commercialization
DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by Lawrence Livermore National Security, LLC, is offering a collaboration opportunity to develop and commercialize its proprietary Direct Conversion of Air to Ammonia and Nitric Acid using Advanced Manufactured Electrochemical Reactors. This innovative technology bypasses the traditional, energy-intensive Haber-Bosch process by utilizing an advanced, additively manufactured electrochemical reactor. Key advantages include avoiding costly separation processes, eliminating the need for high temperatures and pressures, and converting directly from air without hydrogen evolution or toxic materials. This technology has potential applications in agriculture for synthetic fertilizer ingredients, as well as in refrigeration and other industrial needs. The current stage of technology development is TRL 0-2, and LLNL has filed for patent protection. LLNL is seeking industry partners with demonstrated market commercialization capabilities. This is not a procurement, and interested companies should submit a statement of interest detailing their expertise and relevant facilities.
