Description

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is requesting quotes for a custom-built carbon fiber cutting system, or its domestic equivalent. The system must accommodate specific unwind (mother roll) and rewind (product) core dimensions and widths. It requires a cutting system appropriate for carbon fiber, utilizing tungsten carbide or similarly durable cutting edges, with the vendor expected to maintain stock of extra blade sets for supportability. ORNL has specific requirements for waste handling, mandating that waste trim cannot be wound with the good product. The proposed solution must include separate waste management, such as rewinding waste into separate rolls or directing it elsewhere. The system must also feature adjustable slit width via a knife/spacer arrangement and have independently controlled cutter and winding speeds, each with its own motor, and an adjustable feed rate.
