The North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) U.S. Small Grants Program aims to foster partnerships for the protection, improvement, restoration, and management of wetland ecosystems and associated habitats critical for migratory birds and other wildlife in the United States. This program supports the conservation goals outlined in various bird conservation plans and requires a 1:1 non-federal match. Research projects are not eligible. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Division of Bird Habitat Conservation administers the grant program, with review and assessment by the North American Wetlands Conservation Council. Eligible applicants include state governments, county governments, city or township governments, special district governments, independent school districts, public and state-controlled institutions of higher education, federally recognized Native American tribal governments, other Native American tribal organizations, nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status (other than institutions of higher education), private institutions of higher education, individuals, and small businesses. The program provides grants ranging from $1,000 to $250,000, with an estimated total program funding of $5,000,000 expected to support approximately 30 awards.
