Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Matching Grant Program
DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is seeking eligible organizations to provide free tax preparation services through its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) grant program. This initiative aims to assist low- to moderate-income individuals, persons with disabilities, the elderly, those with limited English proficiency, Native Americans, and military personnel in filing their taxes. The program offers matching funds grants to support partner organizations in operating VITA programs. These grants are intended to extend services to underserved populations, increase electronic filing capacity, enhance quality control, improve volunteer training, and boost the accuracy of tax returns prepared at VITA sites. The funding is available nationwide, including Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. Eligible applicants include various non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and government agencies. Applicants must meet specific criteria, including tax compliance, provision of matching funds, and adherence to program guidelines. The grant period is one year, from October 1 to September 30, and awards are competitive and discretionary.
