Barton County is seeking proposals for its Community Recycling Activities Program, with a total budget of $15,000.00 to support local recycling initiatives. This grant aims to fund projects that develop or improve recycling activities within Barton County, Kansas. Eligible applicants include any department, agency, organization, recycling center, city, school district, or community college located in Barton County. Funding criteria include demonstration of positive economic and environmental impact, consistency with the Barton County Solid Waste Management Plan, benefit to county residents, and an increase in recycling participation or volume. Allowable costs for the grant include the purchase or repair of recycling equipment, development of awareness campaigns, site improvements directly related to recycling projects, purchase of tools and supplies, material disposal fees, establishment of new projects to expand recyclable materials or their uses, and support for advertising or community education projects. Grant funds are intended to supplement, not replace, existing funds. Unallowable costs include recycling hazardous waste, land acquisition, and salaries/benefits. Applications must be submitted in a sealed envelope marked "Recycling Grant Application" to the Barton County Clerk at 1400 Main Street, Suite 202, Great Bend, Kansas. The extended deadline for submission is 2:00 p.m. on May 29, 2026. Applications received after this time will be returned unopened. Applicants should clearly state the allowable costs, the requested funding amount, and their intended use of the funds.
