Description
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research to identify qualified businesses capable of performing polar bear maternal den detection surveys. This will involve using trained scent detection dog teams to survey for the presence of polar bear maternal dens on USGS property in Arctic conditions. The contractor will be responsible for providing trained scent detection dogs and qualified handlers, conducting field surveys, collecting and documenting environmental survey data, and producing a final technical report with methodology, raw data, and metadata. The primary survey area is Oliktok LRRS, with potential secondary areas including Foggy and Howe Islands. The contractor's detection dog shall be trained to detect polar bear scent, and surveys will occur after AIR surveys in December and/or January. The period of performance is from October 1, 2026, to September 30, 2027.
