Description
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) intends to award a sole-source purchase order for a 10-stage Micro Orifice Uniform Deposit Impactor (MOUDI) particle sizer. This instrument is needed by the Health Effects Laboratory Division, Physical Effects Research Branch to obtain mass-based particle size distributions for test dusts, powders, droplets, and collected aerosol samples over the 0.05 to 18 micrometer size range. This capability is crucial for examining inhalable particles and their potential health effects. The MOUDI II impactors, specifically models 120R and 125R, are designed for high-accuracy aerosol sampling with advanced precision, featuring stepper motors for uniform particle deposition. The instrument utilizes micro-orifice nozzles to minimize jet velocity, pressure drop, particle bounce, and re-entrainment, ensuring sharp cut-size characteristics and low inter-stage losses. The selected instrument does not connect to a computer and does not generate digital data; it uses disposable foil collection plates and optional membrane filters for sample collection. The vendor, TSI Incorporated, is the only known source for this specific instrument that meets the wide range of size classification and uniform deposition requirements for inhalation research.
