Description
The Defense Health Agency (DHA) intends to award a sole source purchase order for a SciAps X-550 XRF Lead Paint Analyzer. This equipment is needed to replace outdated and inoperable existing analyzers used for industrial hygiene surveys and lead paint analysis by the Defense Centers for Public Health - Aberdeen. SciAps is the original equipment manufacturer and sells this equipment direct, with no dealers or distributors. Without this specific analyzer, the Industrial Hygiene Field Services Division will be unable to perform necessary analysis surveys, leading to mission failure. Market research indicated that while other companies offer similar analyzers, they are either rental-only or do not offer the same cost-effectiveness as purchasing directly from the manufacturer, SciAps Inc. The manufacturer also does not charge for replacement of the radioactive isotope, saving the government significant costs.
