Description
The Research Department at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS) in Temple, Texas, requires specialized veterinary support for its zebrafish vivarium core facility. The services are to be performed at Research Building 205. The ideal candidate will be a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with documented experience in the oversight and care of zebrafish within a laboratory animal science and medicine environment. General small-animal clinical experience is not sufficient. The scope of work includes administrative support, such as serving as the attending veterinarian and a member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), providing pre-reviews of animal use protocols, conducting semi-annual program and facility reviews, and assisting with IACUC and husbandry SOPs and policy development. The veterinarian will also aid in the submission of annual reports to regulatory bodies like the USDA, OLAW, and AAALAC-International, and provide advice on animal care programs. Veterinary care support involves reviewing and advising on monthly zebrafish colony health reports. Educational support includes conducting virtual meetings with investigators on relevant topics. The contract period is structured with a base year (July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2027) and four option years, extending through June 30, 2031. Services are required Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Central Time, excluding federal holidays. The estimated annual hours for all tasks are 55.
