Description
The University of Washington (UW) is soliciting proposals for the Pivot - Hot Water Loop Phase I project, a critical step in transitioning from fossil fuel-based steam generation to a low-carbon hot water distribution network. This project involves the design and construction of a 6MW electrode steam boiler, a thermal energy transfer station, and pumps within the UW Power Plant. Additionally, it includes the direct-bury installation of EN253 supply and return hot water piping from the Power Plant to the new Chemical Sciences Building, with provisions for 15 future connections to accommodate campus-wide expansion. The project aims to ensure flexibility and integration with future clean energy initiatives. Key components include the boiler, energy transfer station, heating water pumps, and associated electrical and mechanical infrastructure. The scope also encompasses the installation of the hot water distribution loop on the Seattle Campus, designed for variable flow and temperature reset, and coordination with the Chemical Sciences Building construction to meet its day-one operational needs. The University's target budget for the Design-Builder is $35.5 million, exclusive of sales tax, with an anticipated project schedule for construction from June 2027 to October 2028.
