Description
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is soliciting quotations for one new metalworking lathe to be delivered to their research facility in Wooster, Ohio. This lathe will replace existing, outdated equipment and will be used for machining precision parts for current engineering prototypes and future research projects. The required lathe must be a geared head, high-speed, metalworking engine lathe with specific technical requirements including a minimum 5.0 HP Main Drive Motor (230V/3PH/60HZ), a digital readout system for multiple axes, a one-piece solid cast iron floor base with a total weight over 2800 pounds, a coolant system, chuck guard with safety interlock, removable front chip pan, lockable main disconnect switch, LED work light, and an operation manual with a parts list. It must also include a spindle brake pedal, steady rest, follow rest, telescopic taper attachment, BXA tool post, 4MT Super precision live center, 4MT keyless drill chuck with arbor, 3-jaw self-centering chuck, 8" adapter plate, 10" 4-jaw independent chuck, 5C front D1-6 mounted handwheel collet closer, two sets of 5C round collets (one set 1/16" to 1 1/16", the other 3mm to 27mm), a 12" face plate, micrometer carriage stop, full-length splash guard, spindle center sleeve, adjustable apron infeed overload safety clutch, and specific dimensions for swing over bed, distance between centers, swing over cross slide, swing in gap, cross slide travel, top slide travel, carriage width, carriage length, and bed width. The spindle nose must be D1-6 with a bore of 2.066" and a taper of MT6. It should have 16 spindle speed ranges from 40-2000 RPM. Threading capabilities must include Inch Threads (45 types, 2 to 72 TPI), Metric Threads (39 types, 0.2 to 14 MM), Modular Threads (18 types, 0.3 to 3.5), and Diametral Threads (21 types, 8 to 44). The lead screw diameter is 1.25" with a pitch of 4 TPI. Longitudinal feed should range from 0.002 to 0.067 IPR, and cross feed from 0.001 to 0.034 IPR. The quill diameter is 2.047" with a travel of 6.0" and an MT4 taper. Handwheel graduations for cross slide and cross feed should be 0.001", and apron handwheel graduations should be 0.01". The coolant motor should be 1/8 HP.
