The City of Port St. Lucie is soliciting bids for asbestos abatement and recoating services for four bridges: Bridge #945258 (Paar Dr.), Bridge #945261 (Jeanne Ave.), Bridge #945262 (Darwin Blvd.), and Bridge #945263 (Gettysburg Dr.). The scope of work includes removing asbestos-containing materials and applying a Class 5 coating to the concrete outer walls, central columns, column caps, pedestrian walls, and upper walls of the bridges. Hazmat reports indicate that the white coating on the parapet walls, side walls, and end bents of bridges #945258, #945261, and #945262 contain friable Regulated Asbestos-Containing Material (RACM). The report for Bridge #945263 also identifies friable RACM in the white Class 5 finish on the parapet and side walls. It is recommended that this material be managed through an Operations and Maintenance program or properly removed by a licensed asbestos abatement contractor prior to any work that might disturb it. Lead and zinc were detected in paint samples from some bridges, but not at levels classified as hazardous. The contract period is for nine months.
