Description
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Southeast Fisheries Science Center, intends to award a sole source contract to Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. This contract is for the development of a high-quality reference genome for the sandbar shark, which is crucial for accurate kinship assignment and population assessment research. The project involves high-coverage DNA sequencing using PacBio long-read sequencing and Hi-C sequencing, followed by optical density mapping for accurate assembly. Additionally, the genomes of 20 individuals will be resequenced at moderate depth. This work will leverage the contractor's existing knowledge, network of scientists, and a database of archived tissue samples, significantly reducing risk and allowing for immediate commencement of work. The NAICS code for this requirement is 541380, with a small business size standard of $19M. The government believes Texas A&M University Corpus Christi is the only source reasonably available to meet this requirement.
