Description
The County of Ocean is soliciting bids for the supply of deicing salt. The primary requirement is for Rock Salt #1 (sodium chloride) that meets New Jersey Department of Transportation Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction of 2007. This salt must contain no more than 1.0 percent moisture when dried and conform to specific chemical composition and grading requirements. Additionally, the solicitation includes a requirement for treated deicing salt, which is granular sodium chloride treated with liquid magnesium chloride or an approved equivalent. This treated salt is intended to enhance performance by reducing corrosiveness, improving low-temperature effectiveness, and preventing clumping and freezing. The treated salt must meet stringent specifications regarding its chemical composition, size grading, moisture content, and corrosion rating, ensuring it is at least 50% less corrosive than standard sodium chloride. Deliveries are to be made by truck in quantities of no less than twenty tons to various designated locations throughout Ocean County, including Jackson, Lacey, Lakewood, Plumsted, Manchester, Manahawkin, Ship Bottom, and Toms River garages, with the possibility of additional locations being designated.
