Description
The New York State Canal Corporation (Canals) requires emergency diving services on an as-needed basis for tasks along its waterways. Services include debris removal, assisting with cofferdams and submerged infrastructure repair, construction support, inspections, and underwater cutting, welding, and drilling. Divers must have experience in construction, structural inspections, and mechanics, and be graduates of an accredited Association of Commercial Diving Educators school, holding 10-hour OSHA, CPR, and First Aid certifications. A Health and Safety Plan (HASP) and dive plan, including emergency rescue and nearby medical services, must be submitted prior to work. Required equipment includes hard hat dive gear with surface-supplied air and communications, underwater tools (concrete drill, wood drill, chainsaw, jackhammer, cutting/welding gear), underwater video equipment, and a workboat.
