Description
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), Office of Science and Engineering Laboratories (OSEL), requires a 18-40 GHz High Frequency Power Amplifier. This solid-state power amplifier is needed to design an Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) test method for evaluating the immunity of medical devices to common electromagnetic emitters. The amplifier must be a standalone unit with integrated controls, power supply, and cooling system, powered by standard U.S. electrical outlets. Key technical requirements include an operating frequency range of 18-40 GHz, a minimum output power of 20W, a small signal gain of 43dB, and the ability to amplify both continuous wave (CW) and modulated signals. It must also provide infinite load protection, have a maximum allowable input power of 0 dBm, and include over-temperature protection. The amplifier should feature 50-ohm input and output impedance, with specific connector types (2.92mm K-connectors for input, WRD180 waveguide for output). Remote control via USB or Ethernet is required, in addition to front panel control. A warranty of at least one year from the date of instrument acceptance is also required. Optional items include phase-stable cable assemblies and a waveguide to coaxial adapter.
